Being a complete hypocrite myself I walked past this book at Indigo more times than I care to admit and never looked back. ⁉️
Sure it has the Reese’s Book Club sticker and the NY Times Bestselling author but?? I don’t know. Something about it told me it was going to be painful so I avoided it. 💡
Why you may ask? Couldn’t tell you because I am a sucker for self inflicted pains when it comes to novels! 🧎🏻♀️
FINALLY after wandering past this book I finally grabbed it and after chapter one all I could think was you big dummy this is LITERATURE GOLD why have you been putting it off! I don’t know internal me! But you get where I’m going with this. 📚
Owens sets her story in the late 1960’s small town in North Carolina, which is haunted by the legendary ‘Marsh Girl’ to which no one has ever seen. When a very handsome dead body is pulled from the Lake (yes still handsome at death!) all eyes are upon the Marsh Girl Kya, who has lived alone for as long as she can remember. 🌾
This book sheds light upon a reality of inequality in which many people actually face! I can easily say this book had me gripping every page and dying for more!
Now the ending… I’ll let you figure that out for yourself 😏.
